This Thursday saw the final round of pool matches for the Under 11 Football League at Goals. Wellington went into the round needing to win all three games to qualify for the finals. In very wet and miserable conditions, it all came down to the final game. We faced a very strong Lapage team who, according to some of our kids, looked like an under 14 team due to the size of some of their players. An early goal to Ethan Gill got us on the front foot early. The remainder of the match was a real arm wrestle with Lapage looking as though they were about to score on several occasions. However, Alex Smith kept us in the game with some superb saves in goals. These proved the turning point and you could feel the team lift in confidence. Several more Wellington goals followed the resumption of the second half and at full time we were eventual winners 4-0.
The last three weeks has seen some great football played by our Wellington boys. They can hold their heads high after only dropping one game throughout the pool stages and head to the finals in a fortnights time in the knowing they can compete with the best Under 11 school teams from across our area. Well done boys and keep up the good work!
