Nursery have had a WOW fun day based on our topic about Winter. Staff and parents have been kindly collecting hundreds of milk cartons for us to use to build an igloo for role-play. The children have loved sitting in the igloo and reading Winter themed books and cuddling the polar bears.
We have had lots of other activities to explore both indoors and outdoors. Indoors we have made six-sided snowflakes, explored foam-snow, investigated blocks of ice, made cotton wool snowmen in bottles for developing fine-motor skills, creating snow art pictures, fishing for magnetic number fish, matched up mittens and dressed the teddies, and last but not least, we decorated a snowman’s face biscuit to eat with our milk at snack time. Outdoors we talked about the animals of the North and South Poles on the ice, made ‘lava lamps’, and investigated a range of objects in the ‘Polar Explorers’ hut using magnets and magnifying glasses.
We finished our day by singing our favourite snowman and winter songs. The day was made even more special by some real snow which came down courtesy of the winter weather!
